BECOME AN EGG DONOR

If you are accepted into the egg donation program, you will participate in the following :

  • Donor Profile. A very comprehensive questionnaire needs to be completed. You are requested to fill in your details like your educational achievements, sexual activity, medical history, family history and your family background. Must be accurate and honest.
  • Psychological Assessment. You will need to be evaluated by a qualified psychologist and to counsel you as to the obligations and other responsibilities of being a donor. There will be no cost to you for this assessment test.
  • Genetic Counselor Consultation. The counselor will conduct an interview with you to determine if you may be in a high risk category for certain genetic disorders based on your family history. An extra blood test may be needed when recommended. Ivimed will pay for the cost of the genetic consultation and any required additional genetic test.
  • Donor Agreement. A legal document will be drawn up for you to explain what is involved in the egg donation process.
  • Physical Examination. Once the screening procedure is completed and have clearance, you will be scheduled to see the doctor to confirm whether you are qualified to donate eggs. You will have a complete medical examination and a vaginal ultrasound. Blood will be drawn to test for infectious diseases and genetic conditions. You will receive detailed information regarding the cycle and what it involves in the treatment cycle. A timeline will be set for you by the doctor over the next few weeks.

Complications after egg retrieval are rare and the chances of a serious problem are equally small. The unusual problems include internal bleeding, vaginal bleeding or infection.

Recovery after the egg retrieval is quite rapid, though some pelvic heaviness, soreness or cramps are common (like menstrual cramps). Ivimed will have a companion available to take the donor home or to the hotel, since the donor cannot drive the car after sedation or anesthesia. A medical insurance coverage of $250,000 is purchased for the donor in case of medical emergency, at no cost to the donor.
